Logitech HD Webcam C525 - Review
Logitech has launched two new HD recording webcams, namely the C310 and the C525. We received the C525 for testing, which features 720p video recording, a compact folding stand and new Logitech webcam software that offers entertaining photo and video effects.
Design and build quality
The webcam is quite compact, with a double-jointed stand that allows you to easily fix it to your PC monitor, laptop screen or even rest it on your desk. When you are not using it, you can just fold the stand over itself to cover the lens for protection when unused. The body has a swivel joint to connect it to the stand so that you can turn it 360 degrees while recording.
Features
The video quality is excellent at 720p on a reasonably powerful machine, but starts framing on slower machines. The webcam is perfect for online video chat with its clarity and high resolution video capture and you can also use the Logitech Vid HD software to share your videos and images on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube with just one click.
The webcam has an in-built mic that quite effectively cancels out ambient noise. The camera also has auto-focus and real-time light enhancement features that allow you to capture clear and sharp 8 megapixel images. The software bundled with the webcam contains some fun features and filters to make enhancements to your images and also to add effects to your photos and videos, such as like neon splashes, fish-eye distortions and a mask maker.
There is also an additional 60-day free trial of Logitech’s facial recognition software that you can download. It scans your face and enables you to use it as a password for your computer or to protect specific files or data.
Performance
In order to retain the HD quality of your media, the captured photos and recorded videos are not saved as compressed files. This means that you will require a fair amount of free storage space if you intend to record lengthy HD videos.
