MINI has just finished the second wave of electric MINI E trials in the UK - with the results set to play a key role in developing the 2013 BMW 'i' Megacity.
Forty families in the Oxford area have, for the past six months, been renting MINI Es and staying in constant touch with BMW about how they find it.
It's part of the German giant's commitment to electric cars - "We never intended to sell the MINI E," said project director Dr Julia Weber,' "but the field trial is an essential part of understanding electric cars."
BMW has no end of information to analyse, but its headline findings were striking: the cars' 100-mile range was good enough for 95% of users... and two in three NEVER used a public charging station!
"Usage of the MINI E was little different to that of a regular petrol or diesel MINI Cooper, with the usage curves almost perfectly matching one another."
